Port Blair is the departure
point for all flights and ferry crossings to the Indian mainland. It is
also the hub of the Andamans' Inter-Island Bus and Ferry Network.
To The Mainland:
Basically, the only sure way of finding out when the next ship is
leaving, and whether or not passages on it are available, is contact the
SCI Office, opposite the Dhanalaksmi Hotel in Aberdeen Bazaar. This is the
point of sale for crossing to
Calcutta
(Kolkata); for Chennai
and Vishakapatnam, one will have to have down to Phoenix jetty.
Returning to the mainland by plane in just two hours instead of sixty can
save lots of time and hassles. On the day of one's flight, be sure to
check in at least ninety minutes before the scheduled departure time.
Railways:
Travellers intending to catch onward trains from their port of arrival on
the mainland should note that Port Blair has
a computerized Southern Railways Reservation office near the Secretariat
Timing: Monday - Saturday 8.30 am -1.00 pm & 2.00 - 4.00 pm.
Indian law strictly forbids the removal of Coral from
the Andamans.
